4 QUESTIONS TO GEORGIA KONTODIMOU

Can you tell us how you got into photography?

Never had I thought that I would end up being a photographer and I am extremely grateful that things turned out this way. I started photography in 2014 as a hobby, mainly during traveling. Later on, I began taking some self-portraits and portraits of friends, which I enjoyed deeply. So, in 2017, my boyfriend and I decided to work together as a wedding photography duo, and have been working full time as such since then, alongside our personal projects.

Please share something about your images. What is your special interest? How do you choose the colors, composition, themes etc.?

I enjoy shooting both people and things, especially flowers, in an anti-portrait way. That is, I am not interested in depicting the exact characteristics of the subject being photographed, but instead I am experimenting with shapes, color, and forms, either during the photoshoot using various objects or in post-production. I rarely have the final outcome in mind, but rather build on the idea and experiment during the whole process.

Your portraits have an own aesthetic, how did you come to this look and what do you want to express?

I am still working on finding and developing my own style. I don’t aim to provoke certain feelings to those who view my photos, but it would be great if that was indeed the case. As I work spontaneously, what you see expressed is the way I felt at a certain moment in front of a certain person/object.

How do you get inspired? And what inspires you the most? This could be films, books or magazines or anything that surrounds you.

All of the above. It is such a cliche, but everything can be a source of inspiration, be it a movie, music, literature, human interaction or nature. If I have to be more specific, when I look for inspiration, there are always some movies I return to.
