8 QUESTIONS TO LUCAS TIEFENTHALER
Can you tell us a bit about how you became a photographer? And tell us something about your pictures.
My photography journey started quite simply. As a child, I borrowed my parents' camera one day and realized how much I enjoyed taking photos. It was an old film camera with a simple shutter button, and the photos only became visible after they were developed. That process fascinated me. I began photographing everything around me. The turning point came when my older brother decided to pick up photography as well. He started with a much better camera that produced sharp images. As the younger sibling, I felt a bit jealous. Eventually, I saved up to buy my first DSLR, a Canon 700D. That’s when my photography adventure truly began.
I grew up near stunning mountains, where I learned to ski before I could even walk. Those breathtaking landscapes became my primary subjects. I spent every free moment capturing my adventures in the mountains with my new camera ‒ both in summer and winter. I delved deeper into photography, reading books, watching countless videos, and taking online courses on landscape photography. I made daily mistakes but learned from them and continuously improved.
While completing my business training, I made up my mind: I wanted to turn my greatest passion ‒ photography ‒ into a career. And that’s what I did. At first, it felt like diving into cold water, but it was worth it.

Please share something about your images. What is your special interest? How do you choose the colors, composition, themes etc.?
My pictures tell stories about moments in nature that often go unnoticed ‒ like a breathtaking sunset on a mountaintop or the clear view of the Milky Way at night, far from inhabited areas. For me, the most important thing is the feeling behind the image. My photography is intuitive and heartfelt. I let the landscape guide me, aiming to translate the emotions I experience into my pictures through dynamic compositions and vibrant colors.
That indescribable feeling of standing on a mountain during a stunning sunset is what I strive to convey through my images. I also enjoy blending landscapes with action sports photography. My goal is to invite viewers into my world ‒ a world that inspires them to dream and shows what’s possible when you step out of your comfort zone.

Where does this interest come from?
The interest has always been there. I can’t fully explain it ‒ it’s something within me. As a child, I realized how happy creative activities made me. My love for mountains, travel, and nature, combined with photography, has given me an incredible sense of freedom. Moving freely in nature, camera in hand, and letting creativity flow ‒ that is pure fulfillment for me.
What inspires you?
Nature itself constantly inspires me. It surprises us again and again with unique moments ‒ from a sudden ray of light after a storm to the appearance of the northern lights in Central Europe. These moments make me happy and motivate me to keep going and start new projects. I’m also inspired by people who break new ground and show what’s possible when you believe in yourself.

What else inspires you? Movies, books, magazines, or your surroundings?
Movies, especially those based on true stories with strong, emotional storylines, have a big impact on me. They give me goosebumps. Documentaries about our planet are also incredibly inspiring ‒ they remind me of the breathtaking world we’re lucky to live on.
Books and photos inspire me too. I love looking at images that make me wonder, “How on earth was that shot taken?” Those are my favorites. Anything unique or different sparks my creativity and keeps me driven.
As a long-time customer of WhiteWall, which of our products have impressed you most and why?
I’m a big fan of the ultraHD acrylic glass photo prints. In my opinion, this option brings out the colors and details of my images perfectly and gives them a fascinating depth. They’re especially stunning for landscape photography with vibrant colors and a three-dimensional effect.
I’m also impressed by the matte canvas prints. I’ve tried many providers, but I think WhiteWall delivers the best results. Additionally, I love the Hahnemühle Photo Rag Fine Art Paper for a more classic style. Recently, I tried the ChromaLuxe HD Metal Print and was blown away by the color reproduction and lightweight feel.

What was your first camera?
The first camera I owned was the Canon 700D. Before that, I borrowed an old Olympus camera from my parents.
What else should we know about you?
Great question! Besides photography, I love trying new things that push me out of my comfort zone, whether it’s skydiving, ice bathing, or traveling to far-off places.
Over time, my focus has expanded beyond just photography. I now aim to inspire and motivate people to explore the world and step outside their comfort zones. That’s why I frequently organize free mountain adventures for the adventurous members of my community ‒ like overnight stays under the open sky or cave tours. During these trips, I also share insights into my photography.
I want social media to become a launchpad for real connections and unforgettable experiences in the real world. It’s important to me to bring people together and create lasting moments.
