WhiteWall, partner of the Circulation(s) 2025 photo festival

The European festival dedicated to young European photography will be held in Paris from April 5.

Lithuanian artists in the spotlight this year

Every year Circulation(s) spotlights a particular artistic scene, inviting young artists from that region to present their work. After exploring the Portuguese, Belarusian, Armenian, Bulgarian and Ukrainian photographic scenes this year's focus is on Lithuania. For the fourth year running, WhiteWall is supporting the focus by producing works from the various series on show.

As part of the focus on Lithuania the festival highlights various series exploring notions of identity, memory and reality through contemporary artistic approaches. Drawing on themes such as uprooting, media dehumanization and the influence of digital technologies, the works question our perception of others and the world around us. They reveal the tensions between visibility and erasure, authenticity and artifice, while offering a profound reflection on the impact of images in our society.

"Uprooted" - Ieva Baltaduonyte

One in ten refugees is thought to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Symptoms include anxiety, panic attacks, nightmares and flashbacks. Women and children are particularly vulnerable to these traumas.

Uprooted tells the story of Ukrainian women and teenagers who fled the war and have now settled in Kaunas, Lithuania. The series highlights their strength and courage in the face of the profound trauma of exile.

"Chasing Digital Truth" - Agne Gintalaite

This series explores the creative potential of generative AI, perceived by our minds as a source of truth. The data used to train the AI's generative models blend with the authenticity of Agnė Gintalaitė's personal photos. The digital objects presented, however, are not intended to blend into an alleged reality. Imperfections become revealing clues to the AI's way of thinking. This collaboration between human and technology gives rise to images that embody the ontology of an emerging hybrid world.

Artist

"Enjoy the now" - Paulius Petraitis

The “Enjoy the Now” series examines the media strategies employed to dehumanize migrants who have crossed the border between Belarus and Lithuania. Paulius Petraitis has compiled a set of press images in which migrants' faces are systematically blurred, erasing their identity and any sign of their existence.

By revisiting these places of passage, Petraitis searches for traces of this obscured human presence, accentuating through his work this desire to erase identity and belonging.

Behind the scenes of the production

The works in the Lithuania focus were produced by WhiteWall. In the following images we follow the step-by-step production of Agnė Gintalaitė's "Chasing the digital Truth" series. Amélie Samson, general coordinator of the Circulation(s) festival, also accompanied the production in our laboratory.

Printing photos

The images are first printed together on a single roll of Fine Art Canson Aquarelle paper using an inkjet printing mode - this means that tiny droplets of ink are projected onto the paper to create an image.

Quality Control

After printing, the images are carefully examined under a magnifying glass to ensure that they are free of imperfections.

Laminating on alu Dibond

The photos on Fine Art Canson Aquarelle paper are then laminated to an aluminum Dibond plate and cut to the desired format.

Framing the image

Finally, the image, laminated on aluminum Dibond, is assembled to the Pop Art frame, previously mounted in our workshop.

The festival of young European photography

Supporting the photographic scene, and in particular young emerging artists, is a long-standing commitment for WhiteWall. It is therefore with great enthusiasm that we renew for the 4ᵉ consecutive year our partnership with the Circulation(s) festival, to be held in Paris from April 5 to June 1ᵉʳ, 2025.

Thanks to a rigorous selection and bold programming, Circulation(s), organized by the Fetart association, has established itself as one of Europe's unmissable photography events. The festival brings together exhibitions, workshops, portfolio readings and meetings with artists in a dynamic artistic venue in the heart of Paris. What sets it apart is its rich, innovative and high-quality program, which captivates not only photography enthusiasts, but also a wider public.

Circulation(s) aims to reveal young talent and highlight new trends. Each year, following a call for projects, the artistic committee - made up of 10 professional curators - receives over 1,000 applications from international artists. These are then carefully examined by the jury, who finally selects around thirty artists for each edition. Throughout the festival, visitors will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite artist. The winner of the Prix du Public will receive, as last year, a WhiteWall endowment of €500.00.

For this 15ᵉ edition, the festival presents twenty-three artists from thirteen different nationalities, offering an artistic perspective that pushes back the boundaries between photography and contemporary art. This year's focus, for which WhiteWall has produced almost all the works, is dedicated to Lithuania. The curator and a WhiteWall expert will discuss the conception of this exhibition during the professional weekend scheduled for May 17 and 18, 2025.

We invite you to consult the full program of exhibitions, workshops and events on the Circulation(s) website.
